2026 Sylvania Time Capsule Registration

Thank you for your interest in registering an item for the 2026 Sylvania Time Capsule, set to be opened in 2076. By contributing an item, you will truly become part of Sylvania's History.
Because space is limited and some materials can deteriorate and damage other items over time, several guidelines and restrictions are in place. Please read all details carefully before completing your registration.
The Sylvania: America 250 committee will have final say on which items are included in the time capsule. However, we will do our best to ensure that everyone who participates has the opportunity to contribute something to this historic project.
Eligibility
Participation is open to Sylvania residents only, including both the City of Sylvania and Sylvania Township. If you do not have a Sylvania address, we unfortunately cannot accept your item due to limited space in the time capsule.
Item Guidelines
If you plan to contribute an item, please ensure it meets the following criteria:
- The item should be related to the Semiquincentennial or represent life today.
- You must provide two identical copies of the item (one for the buried capsule and one for a backup capsule in case they buried capsule is damaged).
- Each participant may submit one item only (meaning one type of item, not multiple different items).
Restricted Materials
Some materials can degrade over time and damage other items in the capsule. For preservation purposes, we cannot accept items containing any of the following materials:
- Liquids
- PVC Plastic
- Rubber
- Leather
- Vinyl
- Wool
- Silk

- Slime or Squishy Toys
If your item contains any of these materials, it must be sealed in an airtight container, preferably glass, to prevent deterioration or contamination.
Multiple Items
If you have several items you would like to submit, you are welcome to register them. However, if registrations exceed available space, we will limit submissions to one item per person. If additional space is available, we may include additional registered items. Participants will be notified a week before hte event regarding final item acceptance.
You must submit a registration for each item.
Item Drop-Off
Items should be brought to Burnham Park during the event for Collection. If you are unable to attend, we can arrange an alternate drop-off time before or after the event if necessary.
Burial Timeline
The time capsule will not be buried immediately after the event. Items will be carefully cataloged and prepared before the capsule is sealed and buried later in the year, ensuring they are properly preserved for their 50-year journey into the future.
Burial Timeline
If your registered item does not meet the stated requirements or violates any restrictions, it may not be accepted. Please be sure to review all rules and guidelines before bringing your item to the event.
Only items that have been registered in advance will be accepted for inclusion in the time capsule.
