Celebration of Freedom at the Lathrop House Scheduled for August 1, 2020

One of Sylvania’s premier history events, “The Celebration of Freedom” is scheduled for Saturday August 1, 2020 at the Lathrop House.

History will literally come to life through engaging presentations. You’ll hear the words of those who lived through the period before, during and after the Civil War and learn more about the struggle for freedom and the risks those, like the Lathrop Family, took to help.

This event is free to the public.  You are encouraged to bring your own lawn chair or blanket.

The afternoon will be filled with presentations and demonstrations by historic re-enactors, presentation of the flag by the re-enactors of the 5th US Colored Regiment Infantry, children’s games and light refreshments.  Plan on coming early to hear and enjoy everything.  Presentations will be happening throughout the afternoon and will not be repeated.

The formal schedule of events concludes at 3:00.   Tours of the restored lower section of the Lathrop House will take place from 3:00 – 5:00 PM
